About the Role

BEC Arabia is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in Quantity Surveying to join our dynamic team in Cairo. As a key member of the Quantity Surveying Department, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial and contractual success of large-scale construction and infrastructure projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, design engineers, and procurement specialists, to deliver cost-effective and high-quality solutions.

This role involves managing the mechanical aspects of quantity surveying, including cost estimation, contract administration, and value engineering. You will be instrumental in supporting BEC Arabia’s mission to deliver world-class projects aligned with Egypt Vision 2030, including urban development and infrastructure modernization initiatives. With a focus on precision and compliance, you will contribute to projects that shape the future of Egypt and the GCC region.

Day-to-day, you will oversee cost control measures, prepare detailed BOQs, and ensure alignment with the Egyptian Code and other regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for mechanical systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Lead cost estimation efforts for mechanical components across various project phases, from conceptual design to execution.
  • Conduct value engineering analyses to optimize project costs without compromising quality or functionality.
  • Manage contract administration tasks, including reviewing and negotiating subcontractor agreements and change orders.
  • Monitor project budgets and provide regular financial reports to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with design and construction teams to ensure mechanical systems align with project timelines and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with the Egyptian Code, safety standards, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Review and validate subcontractor claims, ensuring alignment with contractual terms and project progress.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases for mechanical systems to support future project planning.
  • Support tendering processes, including preparing tender documents and evaluating bids for mechanical works.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to source cost-effective materials and equipment.
  • Mentor junior quantity surveyors, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in quantity surveying, with a focus on mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Primavera P6, and CostX or similar quantity surveying software.
  • Strong understanding of the Egyptian Code and relevant construction regulations.
  • Experience in preparing BOQs, cost estimates, and tender documents for large-scale projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of contract administration and claims management.
  • Registration with the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Certification in MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent.
  • Experience with green building standards such as LEED or Mostadam.
  • Familiarity with BIM tools like Revit for mechanical systems.
  • Prior experience in GCC infrastructure or mega-projects.

Working Conditions

  • This role is office-based in Cairo, with occasional site visits to project locations.
  • Standard working hours with flexibility for project deadlines.
  • Travel within Egypt may be required for project coordination.
  • PPE will be provided for site visits, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
